Ron became involved in the fitness industry in 1972 as a personal trainer at Vic Tanny’s Fitness Centre where he trained to compete as a bodybuilder.

He entered his first competition in 1976 in Sault Ste. Marie and won his first championship in Sudbury in 1978 – “The Mr. Sudbury” and in 1980 won “The Mr. Northern Ontario” title.
His passion for the fitness industry led him to purchase The Gym Fitness Centre in Sudbury which he owned and operated for 18 years until 2010. While he operated “The Gym” he trained and mentored many bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts.

Ron began promoting and organizing bodybuilding events in 1979 and became a Regional Director for Ontario Amateur Bodybuilding Association in 1986. In 1987 he became a CBBF National Judge and in 1988 an IFBB International Professional Judge. He judges the Canadian National Championships, the Olympia and the Arnold Classic among other amateur and professional events.

In 1997, he became President of Bodybuilding Ontario which changed its name to The Ontario Physique Association when the Fitness category was introduced.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the City of Sudbury as a fulltime firefighter for 30 years. He competed in the Firefighter’s Combat Challenge and the set the Canadian record and won the Canadian Masters title in 2002 and in 2005.

His interest in strength training and weightlifting led him to volunteer as a team leader for the Canadian Special Olympics that were held in Sudbury. His role in the powerlifting championships component of the Special Olympics earned him a special award of appreciation as the key player that led to its success.

Ron is very passionate and committed to the fitness industry and the lifestyle opportunities and challenges it offers. His leadership in the industry has earned him the rights to host the only IFBB professional event in Canada. Together with his partners he has organized Toronto Pro SuperShow Sports Festival since June 2011 and plans to grow this event for years to come.
